NetSuite reporting

NetSuite reporting in Power BI

Management accounts, group reporting across subsidiaries, revenue and cash from NetSuite, with reports that refresh quickly and agree with each other.

NetSuite has the data. Getting it out is the hard part.

NetSuite’s dashboards and saved searches are good for live, single-question views. Reporting across subsidiaries, years and other systems is where it gets slow and inconsistent.

Slow to refresh

Connecting Power BI straight to NetSuite is slow. Refreshes take a long time or fail, so reports are rarely as current as they should be.

Saved searches that disagree

Every team builds its own saved searches, and before long the same figure looks different depending on where you read it.

Limits on what comes out

Reports have row limits and very large results may not export, so the full history ends up split across files.

Several subsidiaries

Group reporting across subsidiaries and currencies gets complicated quickly, and the board pack is finished in Excel.

A big data model

NetSuite holds hundreds of record types. Working out which ones to use, and how they join, takes weeks without experience.

Other systems stay apart

E-commerce, CRM, payroll and warehouse data often sit outside NetSuite, so the full picture is pieced together by hand.

What the reports cover

Five report pages, set up around your subsidiaries, departments, classes and locations. We walk you through them on sample data first, then on your own.

01

Management accounts

Profit and loss and balance sheet by subsidiary, department, class and location, against budget and last year.

02

Group view

All subsidiaries in your group currency, with intercompany shown separately, ready for the board.

03

Revenue and margin

Revenue and margin by customer, item and channel, with billing still to come next to what has been invoiced.

04

Cash and working capital

Debtors, creditors and the cash position across subsidiaries, with days to get paid and to pay over time.

05

Stock and fulfilment

Stock value and cover by location, orders waiting to ship and supplier delivery performance, for businesses holding stock in NetSuite.

From NetSuite to the report

  1. 01

    Extract

We pull data through SuiteAnalytics Connect or the NetSuite API, loading only what has changed and doing the heavy joining afterwards, so extracts are quick and NetSuite is not slowed down.

  2. 02

    Model

Finance, sales and stock come together in one model with shared definitions, stored in your own Microsoft tenant with full history.

  3. 03

    Report

Power BI reports in Teams or the browser that refresh quickly and reliably. Finance can still work in Excel on the same numbers.

Finance and operations, one set of numbers

Finance, sales and stock share one set of definitions, so the figure in the board pack matches the one in the sales report.

NetSuite stays as it is

Nothing changes in how your teams work in NetSuite. The reports only read the data.

Financial reporting we have delivered

Finance teams trust reports only when the numbers tie back to the ledger. Every report we build is reconciled to the source before anyone relies on it.

Financial services

Financial reporting migration for 3i

Profit and loss, balance sheet, KPI and reconciliation reporting moved from a legacy BI tool to Power BI on a proper data model, with two reporting bases and manual-adjustment capability preserved.

Questions about NetSuite reporting

Can Power BI connect to NetSuite?
Yes, through SuiteAnalytics Connect or the NetSuite API. Connecting Power BI straight to NetSuite tends to be slow, so we copy the data into a database in your tenant first and the reports run on that.
Do we need SuiteAnalytics Connect?
Not always. It is the simplest route if you already have it. If you do not, we can use the NetSuite API instead. We will recommend the cheaper option that works for your data volumes.
Why not connect Power BI directly?
Direct connections pull large tables across every refresh and join them inside NetSuite, which is where the slowness and timeouts come from. Loading only changes and joining afterwards fixes both.
What happens to our saved searches?
Where a saved search already captures the right logic, we reuse it. Over time the shared model replaces most of the one-off searches, so everyone reads the same numbers.
Can you report across our subsidiaries?
Yes. Subsidiaries, currencies and intercompany are handled in the model, and each person can be limited to the subsidiaries they are responsible for.
Can we add data from other systems?
Yes. E-commerce, CRM, payroll and warehouse systems can sit next to your NetSuite data so revenue, costs and operations are reported together.
How is it priced?
As a fixed-price project agreed before work starts. A short reporting review comes first, so you know what is worth building and what it will cost.
